Thalia Hall and CIMMfest Present: Peter Murphy “Stripped”
CIMMfest is proud to present English singer and musician Peter Murphy in a special performance at Thalia Hall. As the lead vocalist of the post-punk quartet Bauhaus, Murphy helped pioneer the gloomy, romantic sounds of the burgeoning gothic rock style of music. Bauhaus released four studio albums before disbanding in 1983. Murphy went on to lead a prolific solo career blending avant-garde, punk, industrial, electronic, Middle Eastern-influenced mysticism (he has resided in Istanbul since 1992), and a distinctive, darkened pop. Over the years, he attracted both mainstream and underground listeners while maintaining his legacy as a cult figure in the goth community. In 2014, Murphy unleashed his tenth studio album, Lion, produced by Killing Joke bassist Martin Glover, a.k.a. Youth, whose production credits also include Paul McCartney and The Verve. The record features Murphy's most operatic vocalizations to date, layered over a diverse collection of dance-punk, cinematic rock, and electrified ballads.
